Incense Cedar used for Pencils
Incense-cedar is an excellent soft wood able to grow in a variety of soils within its natural growing range of central and northern California. It is drought resistant and has a great germination(seeds growing) and survival rate relative to most soft woods. Most wooden cased pencils are made of incense-cedar, as it is able to be sharpened smoothly with ease while staying strong, lite and not warping or loosing its shape over time.
It's ability to withstand a wide range of temperatures and humidity without warping or shrinking allows it to be shipped and used in pencil factories all over the world where there is varying weather and climate conditions.
